The release of the third version of the Bryn & Aberavon Cricket Club website

Bryn Cricket Club Goes 3G
Since the 2005 introduction of the Bryn & Aberavon Cricket Club website there have been two overhauls of it’s look-and-feel – this being the second, culminating in the release of the third incarnation of the site - labelled as ‘3G’.
Included in this update is the use of more technologies that brings the site together, it uses a combination of more technologies than any other site in Greg’s portfolio, at present. Such technologies include CSS, PHP, RSS, XHTML 1.0 and XML.
The site makes use of PHP Pagination, a method outlined in Greg’s previous news item. It also uses PHP to randomly generate the content on a few different pages – the homepage and the player profiles page to name two. The match reports make use of RSS feeds, and so from the beginning of next season users will be able to subscribe to the reports section of the site and be automatically updated with any new match reports that have been added. The use of XML to store some back-end data, such as the fixtures and results data, not only makes them easier to update but also makes it easier to archive such data, and thus, will enable Bryn & Aberavon Cricket Club to build up an archive of previous seasons; this will be a great thing to look at (and reminisce) in a few years time...
Using a combination of all the previously mentioned technologies will make the site easier to update, and to keep on top of all the necessary changes that have to be made during the course of a jam-packed cricketing season. Such changes are made at least weekly through the summer months, and the easier this process can be the more likely it is for such updating tasks to be carried out as and when required.
Now the cricketing season is over, though, the site (quite acceptably) goes into a dormant kind of state. This will enable any extra developments that may be necessary or requested to be made in the background over the winter months. In the meantime, I think there is enough content on the site to keep the occasional visitor satisfied until us cricketers swing back into action next spring.
For now and until the next time, keep smiling and best wishes...
